1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL
A driverâs delight. The 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL was a car ahead of its time, featuring ground-breaking style coupled with class-leading performance. Utilizing an innovative space-frame chassis and coupled with a highly advanced, first of its kind fuel-injected engine, the 300SL held the crown of the fastest performance car in the world at the time of production, making it the must-have automobile for the jet-set lifestyle of the late â50s and early â60s.
The 300SL Roadster presented here has had its chassis modified and reinforced to fit conventionally hinged doors, which simultaneously allowed for greater ease of entry by lowering the height of the chassis on the door line, albeit a small forfeiture of the original coupeâs character.
In order to maintain its racing pedigree, every convertible 300SL was fitted with the sporting NSL engine featured in the coupe as standard configuration. This made the roadster capable of top speeds that ranged from 133 to 155 mph, depending on the final drive ratio specified. This model sports the rarer option of disc brakes, added to models produced between 1961-1963.
This 300SL came into the collection from its original owner, who kept it immaculately maintained since new. It presents as an incredible daily driver matching premiere performance with rugged reliability. Whether attending vintage rallies, long distance touring or a classic Sunday drive, this pristine example of automotive engineering will not disappoint.
