1955 Jaguar XK140 DHC

Ever since Jaguar changed the sportscar landscape with the introduction of the Jaguar XK120, both owners and manufacturers were asking themselves how to do they do it?

Manufactured by Jaguar Cars from 1954 to 1957, the Jaguar XK140 DHC, or Drop-Head Coupe, was the successor to the highly successful XK120, that had been introduced in 1948 – a car cheaper and faster than all of the competition of the time.

Powered by the same 3.4-liter inline-six engine as the XK120, but with several improvements that increased its output to 190 horsepower. The car also featured several other upgrades, including larger bumpers, indicators mounted on the wings, and more comfortable seats with increased legroom.

The XK140 DHC was popular among celebrities and car enthusiasts alike of time, notable owners of the XK140 DHC included actor Clark Gable, musician Miles Davis, and American socialite Barbara Hutton.

The car we have here has been lovingly restored and documented, and is a testament to all the owner's care of this individual car. Originally, a special order from factory with a C-Type head and higher ratio differential, the car was delivered in the UK to a Major-General W M Broomhall, London W1 in xxx 1955.

In 2008 the car was purchased in Australia by its last owner, undergoing a complete restoration by one of the globally renowned Jaguar restorers, Dean Causley of Classic Auto Metal and now presented in the iconic Off English White and period correct Navy Blue interior.

With zero expense spared over an 8-year period, the works included both drivetrain and body and is a world concourse restoration.

The rebuild of both the engine and transmission, both the front and rear suspension with new springs and shock absorbers, a new starter motor and flywheel, all new fuel lines, brake lines and hoses, the wiring loom received a total re-wire and front disc brakes installed all by Classic Lines.

The body work included panel gaps receiving detailed re-alignment, a bare metal respray, interior has all new leathers from Andrew Muirhead in the UK. Re-chromed and refurbished gauges, a new steering wheel, timber veneer and soft-top. Every nut and bolt has been replaced and aligned, with all the brightwork finished to mirror finishes - this is a Pebble Beach standard of car.

Accompanied by a detailed history file with receipts for the entire restoration, its original tools and owner’s manual the car would be suitable for the enthusiast and the most discerning collector.
