Crafted to embrace the new millennium and paying homage to Enzo's birthplace, Maranello faced the formidable task of succeeding the F355. However, the Ferrari F360 Modena emerged triumphant, showcasing a design that was not only lighter, stiffer, and more powerful but also featured increased interior space and superior build quality.
This marked a pivotal shift in the design direction of Ferrari's road cars. To bring this vision to life, Ferrari collaborated with aluminium manufacturer Alcoa to develop a groundbreaking spaceframe chassis from the ground up. This innovative structure, 28% lighter and 40% stiffer than the F355's steel counterpart, accommodated the expanded interior dimensions of the Modena.
The elegantly contoured, all-aluminium body, designed by Pininfarina and reminiscent of iconic models like the 250LM, 268SP, and 246 GT Dino, was meticulously crafted by Scaglietti, now a wholly owned Ferrari subsidiary. The aerodynamics were expertly executed, prioritising high downforce without compromising the sleek overall form. This accomplishment was made possible by an inconspicuous undertray design derived from Ferrari's Formula 1 expertise, eliminating any visually disruptive add-ons.
Powered by an evolved 3.6-litre version of the F355's 90° DOHC V8, the F360 boasted an impressive 400 horsepower. The engine's intricacies were visible through the rear deck's glass panel, showcasing its remarkable design. With a power output of 111 horsepower per litre, the model could be equipped with a 6-speed Sequential Manual Auto-Single Clutch transmission—an advanced technology also employed in the Ferrari F1 during that era.
The car introduced to the Garage is a 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena Coupe, equipped with the F1-style gearbox. Adorned in the iconic Rosso Corsa paintwork, this example is nothing short of immaculate. The quality of the paintwork, switchgear, and leather serves as a testament to a car cherished throughout its 11,570 km of use. The lightweight 18-inch wheels are free of scuffs, and the tan interior perfectly complements the red exterior.
Accompanied by its original logbooks, all owner's manuals stored in the leather Ferrari pouch, and its original toolkit, this is the most extensively documented and complete F360 Coupe we've encountered in a while.
This turnkey example, ready for the next weekend drive or a quick trip down Lygon Street, stands out from the rest with its exceptional provenance, superb condition, and extensive history file; it's a cornerstone car for any enthusiast of the prancing horse.
