Aston Martin has a rich and storied history that dates back over a century. Founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, the company initially produced high-performance cars for the racing circuit. The only ultimate edition ever delivered to Australia.
The Aston Martin Vanquish was first introduced in 2001 as the successor to the popular Aston Martin Vantage. However, in 2004, the Vanquish underwent some significant changes that reflected the brand's continued push for the ultimate expression of a Grand Tourer.
In 2004, the Vanquish S came out featuring an increase in engine power (up from 460bhp to 520bhp) and revised gear and back axle ratios. Top speed was quoted as being in excess of 200mph, making it one of the fastest Aston Martin road cars built at the Newport Pagnell factory.
The exterior panels were still lovingly hand finished from ‘Superformed’ aluminium. Discreet changes to ‘S’ included a bigger, revised grille, front splitter and a raised rear ‘spoiler’ built into the boot lid to keep the car stable at high speed.
The V12 Vanquish S also incorporated the Sports Dynamic Package which included stiffer suspension, revised steering, and larger brakes. The stiff platform and beautifully controlled suspension of the Vanquish S gives it a light-on-its-toes demeanor that is a true revelation after the previous supercharged Vantage flagship. And all clothed in a body of undeniable muscularity and ‘presence’, Ian Callum’s first clean-sheet Aston design.
As the production life of Vanquish drew to the end 50, limited edition cars were built. The Vanquish Ultimate featured a unique metallic black paint finish and special trim and fittings. The example we have here is number 5 of 50 of those final cars. Delivered new to Sydney, Australia in 2007. The car has always remained in a collection, this is reflected by the 7089kms it has travelled since new.
For those in the know, the Vanquish S Ultimate Edition proves itself to be the truly special, hand-built Aston Martin; with a tremendous warmth of character and a delivery that grips you from the moment you press that big red starter button, and it never lets you go. Its charisma cements its place as one of the great Aston Martins.
