Description

"I wanted to build cars that were not something to everyone, but meant everything to some." - Ferry Porsche.

Originally crafted in 1964, all 911 models produced until 1973 have evolved into the most sought-after Porsches in the market. They showcase the iconic Porsche 911 design and have served as a wellspring of inspiration for subsequent 911 models over the years.

The 911 models E and S are considered the most sought-after due to their highly-praised Mechanical-Fuel Injection (MFI) 2.4 L Flat-Six, which produces 165 HP to its rear wheels.

Presently available is an ultra-rare and the last of the small bumper 911s, a 1973 Porsche 911 E Targa Sportomatic. Australia delivered it has undergone a no-expense-spared restoration over approximately 3 years.

This outstanding sports classic was originally sold in September of 1973 by Scuderia Veloce Motors, Sydney, in its current original colour combination of Sepia Brown over Biscuit Leatherette with Houndstooth inserts. It was one of just 20 Type 'E' Targas to arrive on Australian shores.

The restoration, commissioned in 2015 and completed in October 2018 by a Porsche Restoration Specialist, involved a back-to-bare-metal restoration on the body, bringing the vehicle back to its original Sepia Brown colour.

All trim pieces, from bumper seals to new window felt to the correct contrast Gold badging across the deck lid, were either replaced or neatly refurbished. Both front and rear suspension were rebuilt, along with the steering rack, brakes, a full transmission overhaul, and a ground-up engine rebuild.

The result is an unrivalled 911 E that appears as if it had just rolled off the factory floor. The drive is incredibly tight, the Sportomatic transmission is effortlessly responsive, the MFI 2.4 engine provides an obscene amount of power, and the whirring and purring air-cooled soundtrack reverberates behind the driver's ears, providing a quintessential classic Porsche experience.

The vehicle comes with the original owner’s manual, service booklet, a complete set of tools, and receipts for the entire restoration - something rarely seen with early 911s.

With its super retro and ultra-cool colour combination, this beautifully designed 911 Targa is an absolute gem and provides the ideal blend of classic performance, aesthetics, immaculate condition, rarity, and provenance.

This turn-key '73 911 E Targa offers a rare opportunity to invest in and enjoy a classic 911 and would suit the most discerning collector or enthusiast; a viewing is a must.
